Our connection with Kudamatsu City in Yamaguchi Prefecture began when it served as one of the filming locations for OYAKO, the film produced to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Oyako Day.
At the time, then-Mayor Shigemasa Ikawa wholeheartedly embraced the vision of Oyako Day. Thanks to his enthusiastic support, that shared vision became a reality with the establishment of Kudamatsu Oyako Day.
Even after Mayor Ikawa—who was widely known as Japan’s oldest serving mayor—was succeeded by Masuo Kuniiin April 2016, Kudamatsu Oyako Day has continued to be celebrated every year as a special occasion for local residents to reflect on and strengthen the bonds between parents and children.
It is deeply encouraging to see how a connection that began with a single film has taken root in the community and continues to be carried forward through the dedication and goodwill of so many people.
