Announcement: Winners of the 19th “OYAKO Award 2025”

The OYAKO Day Promotion Committee is pleased to announce the recipients of the 19th “OYAKO Award 2025”, selected with reference to the many thoughtful votes and comments received through our online poll.

This year’s award goes to photographer Ittetsu Morishita and his daughter Miho Morishita.

The late Ittetsu Morishita was a dedicated photographer who, for nearly half a century, documented the lives of atomic bomb survivors and advocated for nuclear disarmament both in Japan and abroad. He was also the founder of the NPO World Hibakusha Exhibition, and provided invaluable photographic records to the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Hidankyo), which later received the Nobel Peace Prize.

His daughter Miho has faithfully carried on her father’s mission. She embraces the prayers and messages embedded in each of his photographs and continues to share the importance of peace. Her efforts transcend the concept of “parent and child,” passing on a baton of hope that connects people across generations, nations, and time.

In recognition of her work, Miho Morishita received a certificate of commendation from OYAKO Day, along with a special prize from our sponsor, Choya Umeshu Co., Ltd.

The photo shown was taken on OYAKO Day, July 28, 2013.
