The recipients of this year’s “Oyako Award” were featured in the July 26 evening edition of the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper.
This year’s “Oyako Day” falls on July 27.
For the 19th Oyako Award, we have selected the parent-child duo of Ittetsu Morishita—a photographer who has spent nearly half a century documenting atomic bomb survivors and advocating for nuclear abolition both in Japan and abroad, as well as the founder of the NPO World Hibakusha Exhibition—and his daughter Miho, who has inherited his mission.
“Oyako Day” is a day to reflect on the bonds of life and their importance through the close relationship of parent and child. Marking its 23rd year in 2025, we present this award with deep respect to these two, who continue to communicate their wish for peace as a parent and child.
Selection and announcement were made by the “Oyako Day Promotion Committee.”
