The guest for the 46th Oyako Day Online Talk Live is Hirofumi Gomi, who has created more than 100 haunted houses over the past 30 years, beginning with Maro Akaji’s Panorama Mystery House at Korakuen Yuenchi (now Tokyo Dome City Attractions) in 1992.

Through the experience of fear, Gomi has mastered the art of stirring human emotions and transforming them into excitement and fun. Bruce first met him while working on the promotional poster for a haunted house attraction at Korakuen.

What lies behind fear? This promises to be a conversation that is a little mysterious—and highly stimulating.

As part of the Zushi Biennale, the Numama Alley Exhibition concluded successfully on October 26.

Bruce Osborn also participated, presenting an exhibition titled “Nature Calls in Numama – Turning a Vacant House into a Surprise Box.”

The venue featured artworks created from driftwood and other found objects collected along the seaside, as well as a participatory lightbox installation.

During the exhibition period, many children from local art classes and nearby residents stopped by to enjoy the works.

Visitors also had fun creating their own layouts using the driftwood provided and capturing their arrangements on their mobile phones, filling the space with lively, creative energy.

Next year marks the Zushi Triennale, held once every three years — a larger, evolved version of the festival.

We’re already looking forward to seeing how the exhibition will continue to grow and inspire.

The post Zushi Art Festival — Numama Alley Exhibition: Turning a Vacant House into a Surprise Box appeared first on 「親子の日」Oyako Day.

Once again this year, we received a wonderful variety of heartfelt submissions—photographs capturing your unique “Oyako” (parent-child) moments, and essays filled with your precious family stories. We sincerely thank everyone who participated.

Although the judging process took longer than expected, after careful and fair deliberation, we are pleased to announce the 2025 contest winners and their works. Prizes will be sent individually to each recipient.

One of the most striking aspects of this year’s entries was the rich diversity of time shared between parents and children. Many photographs captured not only daily scenes, but also special places visited together and the joy found in those shared moments.

In the essay category, we were particularly moved by the heartfelt reflections from older male participants expressing their feelings toward their parents—works that resonated deeply with the social mood of our times.

We were also delighted to receive many thoughtful and moving essays from junior and senior high school students, showing how meaningfully the theme of “parent and child” is being embraced by younger generations.

Selecting the final winners this year proved to be an especially challenging task.

The theme of “Oyako” is endlessly profound and cannot be fully expressed in words.

As we announce these remarkable stories today, all of us on the judging panel feel a deep sense of gratitude and joy.

We hope that this contest will continue to serve as a driving force for nurturing and sharing the spirit of Oyako no Hi(“Oyako Day”) together with all of you.

Yoshiko Inoue
