[What Is Nurtured in Everyday Life]

Munakatado, a bakery in Okinawa.

Their bread has a taste like something naturally born—almost like a “child of nature.”

Carefully baked with respect for ingredients and the power of fermentation, their bread connects families and communities, and is passed on to the future.

It feels as though nature, family, and time are all baked into each loaf.

We have had a close relationship with Mr. and Mrs. Munakata for some time, and on several occasions, we have photographed parent-and-child portraits with them for Okinawa Oyako Day.

During those visits, the warmth of their family and the atmosphere they share left a lasting impression, and we were able to spend truly joyful time in Okinawa.

In the way Munakatado carries out their daily work, we sense something deeply connected to what Oyako Daycherishes—

“the continuity of life” and “what we pass on to the future.”

In this session, while listening to the couple’s stories and daily practices, we hope to reflect together on the theme:

“Present to the Future.”

This will be an online event, open to everyone.

We warmly invite you to join us.

THE SCOOTERS is a band Bruce met soon after arriving in Japan.

Among its members, he was especially drawn to the character of Lucy, the tenor saxophonist, which led him to create a photo series titled “I Love Lucy,” with her as the central figure.

This photograph was taken in 1984 in Harumi, Chuo Ward, before the area underwent redevelopment.

Last year, THE SCOOTERS released a new album for the first time in 30 years—and its cover featured one of Bruce’s photographs from the “I Love Lucy” series taken three decades ago.

Yesterday, Lucy and the band’s vocalist, Beauty, came to visit the venue of the Isshiki Beach Art Exhibition, currently being held at Shiosai Park in Hayama.

After viewing the exhibition, we took a walk around Hayama, enjoying a day soothed by the sounds and scents of the sea.

Bruce Osborn first met Ishii in March 1980, on the final day—just before closing—of Bruce’s very first photo exhibition in Japan, held at the Konishiroku Gallery.
Since then, their connection has continued for decades, both professionally and personally.

Now 80 years old, Ishii still rides a skateboard with ease.
His way of life and stories rooted in culture are sure to make this Talk Live a lively and inspiring one.

As part of the Zushi Biennale, the Numama Alley Exhibition concluded successfully on October 26.

Bruce Osborn also participated, presenting an exhibition titled “Nature Calls in Numama – Turning a Vacant House into a Surprise Box.”

The venue featured artworks created from driftwood and other found objects collected along the seaside, as well as a participatory lightbox installation.

During the exhibition period, many children from local art classes and nearby residents stopped by to enjoy the works.

Visitors also had fun creating their own layouts using the driftwood provided and capturing their arrangements on their mobile phones, filling the space with lively, creative energy.

Next year marks the Zushi Triennale, held once every three years — a larger, evolved version of the festival.

We’re already looking forward to seeing how the exhibition will continue to grow and inspire.
